The cloud continues to consolidate itself as an essential resource in companies that aim for a successful digital transformation to respond to the market's needs. Storing data securely through service providers will enable them to shorten times, save money, and be more responsive for jobs that require a shared file system and simple integration.

Data storage allows, among other things, the creation, deletion, modification, reading, writing, and organization of files on servers in a digital infrastructure.

Thus, the cloud has multiple uses; we detail the most common ones below.

Cloud Usage Services

Servicios de uso en la nube

There are several use cases according to the workload of each company, including the following:

1. Web servers:

It is the software responsible for delivering website content to the user. In this case, the cloud allows the information to be uploaded in one place, making the process more agile. It also allows storing shared files for applications, making developers' work easier.

2. Big data analysis:

When it comes to data, the cloud stores a high volume of information, scaling with data growth, and offering the performance necessary to feed data to analytical tools.

AWS offers numerous services for Big Data analysis in the cloud, particularly Amazon EMR for data processing and Amazon Redshift and Amazon S3 for storage in Data Warehouses and Data Lakes, respectively. Additionally, to visualize the data, we can use Amazon Quick Sight.

3. Content management:

Like servers and applications, content management systems (CMS) have multiple servers that need to access the same files; the cloud makes storing documents and other files possible. It can be easily integrated with the developers' workflows.

4. Multimedia content and entertainment:

These work environments require flexible, stable, and secure data access to ensure relevant content production, digital supply chains, media streaming, broadcasts, analysis, and archiving.

5. Database backups:

The constant growth of data has made data management and security increasingly complex. However, the cloud offers a secure way to scale, store and transfer data.

AWS has services such as Amazon S3 Glacier and AWS Backup for database backups, which can support daily tasks depending on needs and use cases.

6. Development tools:

Containers are ideal for building microservices, managing hybrid applications, and performing batch processing. The cloud offers shared data access for all cluster containers to use.

Types of Cloud Storage

Companies generate massive amounts of data, creating a challenge: how to manage it all effectively. Traditional storage methods can lead to fragmented information, hindering innovation. The following are the main types of cloud storage and how each one of them offer solutions for different kinds of organizations.

Tipos de almacenamiento en la nube

Object storage

Companies manage a large amount of data sets from various sources that are used in the company's applications and processes. Not having the proper infrastructure deepens the fragmentation of information and turns the innovation process into something slow and complex.

Object storage is a flat structure in which files are divided into units called objects and stored in a single repository rather than as files in folders or as blocks on servers. Objects function as units in a separate repository with a unique identifier. This type of storage requires an application programming interface (API)

File storage

When developing applications, you need to gain access to shared files. In file storage, data is stored as a single piece of information within a folder that provides servers and applications access to the data through shared file systems.

Block storage

The data is divided into blocks and stored in separate parts where the system considers it most practical.
For each of these cases, AWS offers a wide range of services for data processing, storage, and analysis that can be adapted to the needs of organizations.
